Mark Buchanan: Gets Familiar with 08' Class

Austin High School's Mark Buchanan was one of the first to commit to Texas from the class of 2008. Being from Austin, Buchanan had the luxury of going to watch the Longhorns practice just about whenever he wanted. He attended their spring scrimmage over the weekend and enjoyed seeing many of the prospects from the 2007 and 2008 classes.

"It was fun. I had a great time," Mark Buchanan said. "Most of the 07' guys that signed and the 08' commits were there. It was good to see everyone that can't make it to the extra practices and stuff."

Buchanan had the opportunity to talk and get to know some of the guys that he will be spending the next few years with in Austin.

"I talked to Riley Dodge, Tre Newton, Justin Tucker, Dan Buckner, Blake Gideon and Jeremy Hills," Buchanan said. "Riley, Dan and Blake all kind of hung out afterwards. They were all spending the night."

Buchanan got an up close and personal look at how the offensive line operates while watching the spring scrimmage. He was especially impressed with Tony Hills and Charlie Tanner.

"I thought they look really good actually. Tony Hills is an animal and Charlie Tanner looked really good," Buchanan said. "I know that I will probably be red shirted. Maybe after a year, I can come in and make some kind of impact on the offensive line."

Buchanan earned first team all-district honors during his junior season and spring practice for Austin High School is right around the corner.

"We are not going to go in pads," Buchanan said. "We have a zero week game, so we are going to use that extra week of practice in the fall."
