Arlington to host Big 12 title games

If you build a $1 billion stadium, they will come. First the 2010 Cotton Bowl. Then the 2011 Super Bowl. Now the Big 12 football championship game. Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg announced Thursday the Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington will host the Big 12 football title games in 2009 and 2010.

Arlington to become title town for Big 12

First the Cotton Bowl, then the Super Bowl, now the Big 12 Conference Championship Game. The Big 12 on Thursday awarded its football title game for the 2009 and 2010 seasons to the new Dallas Cowboys stadium in Arlington. On Tuesday, NFL owners awarded Super Bowl XLV to Arlington.

Big 12 bypasses Houston

Houston will have to wait longer than expected before the Big 12 Conference returns to town. Reliant Stadium was not among the sites chosen Thursday to host the next three-year cycle for the league's football championship game. Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg announced the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington will host the championship games in 2009 and 2010. Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium will host the 2008 game.

The Longhorns dropped their second game in the Big 12 Tournament to fifth-seeded Texas A&M, 7-3, on Thursday. Texas is still alive, though, and will look to squeeze into Sunday's conference championship.
