Freshmen Josh Prince and Michael Demperio, the only two out-of-state players on the Texas Longhorns' baseball roster, told coach Augie Garrido they were transferring.

Connally's Keyes expecting early call from MLB

Kevin Keyes will watch TV this afternoon to learn whether he'll be an Astro, Ranger or perhaps a Yankee by sundown. A Connally High School graduate for about a week, Keyes has no clue which of Major League Baseball's 30 teams will call his name. A terrific power hitter with speed to cover center field, he is considered by some to be the area's top prospect. One scouting service projects him to be taken with the 51st pick, which would put him squarely in the second round. Keyes is in an enviable position. Already signed by the University of Texas, he said he'll proudly wear burnt orange next season if he doesn't come to terms with his pro team by Aug. 15, the cutoff date to sign players.

Longhorn's roster shaken up by transfers, MLB draft

The Texas baseball team's stockpile of talent took a hit even on the day before the major league draft is expected to steal most of it. Yesterday, freshmen shortstops Josh Prince and Michael Demperio both announced their plans to transfer away from Texas.
