Whaley has solid leader after UT camp visit

Madisonville, Texas running back Chris Whaley was one of several big time performers from the 2009 class in Austin over the weekend for UT's summer camp. Whaley, a first team all-state selection as a sophomore, raved about his trip to the 40 Acres.

"I just came back from camp today," Chris Whaley said. "We got to learn a lot of different techniques. We worked on handling the ball and just got to know the coaches. All the coaches are great."

Whaley also enjoyed getting to check out the campus and facilities at the University of Texas.

"Yes sir," Whaley said when asked if he got the opportunity to check out the campus and facilities. "It's nice, it's really nice."

Whaley grew up as a Texas fan because he liked the Horns' style of play. On Sunday, Whaley got a different look into UT's football program when he had the opportunity to chat with several members of the Longhorn coaching staff.

"Right now, Texas is my top choice," Whaley said. "I have liked Texas since I was a kid. I've always liked the way that they played. Today getting to know all the coaches and seeing how friendly and nice they are, that makes Texas even better."
