DeSean Hales: Family Atmosphere Lands No. 20

For quite some time, Klein Oak athlete DeSean Hales has been down to five schools, and it appeared that Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and LSU were all even coming down the stretch. However, Hales made up his mind over the course of the last month and committed to the University of Texas Sunday night after attending UT's summer camp.

DeSean Hales entered the summer with five schools sitting atop his list. He had visited Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and LSU during the spring and was planning on taking a visit to Texas Tech shortly after the end of his junior year. In the end, he didn't need to visit Texas Tech at all. He became the 20th commitment in Texas' 2008 class Sunday night.

"I decided not to visit Texas Tech. Not too long ago, I made up my mind and tonight I committed to the University of Texas," DeSean Hales said. "I just got home from doing a thing on the news about it."

What stood out about Texas?

"Texas has really good academics and a good program, but you see that at all of the major schools you visit," Hales said. "The thing I liked the most is that I felt more at home than at the other schools."

Hales got an opportunity to hang out with most of Texas' 2008 class on Sunday. He enjoyed getting to know some of the guys that he will be playing with for the next four years and working on his overall game.

"We did a lot of one-on-one drills and stuff like that," Hales said. "I met all the commits today. They were all really cool people."
