Freshman Forward Not Cleared to Play

Freshman forward Gary Johnson, the highest profile recruit in Rick Barnes' 2007 class, was not cleared to play basketball for the University of Texas because of a heart condition.

The official statement from University of Texas athletic trainer Fred Burnett on Gary Johnson is:

"At this point in time, Gary Johnson has not been cleared to participate in any physical activities at The University of Texas"

But according to the Austin American-Statesman, it was discovered that Johnson will be sidelined because of a heart condition. It is not yet known whether or not the condition will end Johnson's basketball career.
