J'Covan Brown: Nearing Decision

Port Arthur Memorial's J'Covan Brown is one of the most talented combo guards in all of the Southwest. His offer total has swelled over the past couple of months as many of the elite basketball programs from across the country continue to vie for his signature. Brown is close to making a decision, and one school in particular has risen to the top of his list.

"I'm hearing from Texas, Baylor, Lamar, Oklahoma and Cincinnati the most," J'Covan Brown said.

Brown said that all five schools have offered. He also reported offers from USC, Arizona, Florida, Florida State and New Mexico. Despite having offers from basketball powerhouses like Florida and Arizona, an in-state schools is currently sitting atop Brown's.

"Texas," Brown said when asked if he had a favorite. "They have a great school and great coaches."

"I've talked to Coach (Rick) Barnes and Coach (Rodney) Terry," Brown said. "I think they are great people. They are fun to be around, and I think they could get me where I want to go," Brown added.

Brown has visited two schools during the recruiting process, one being Texas and the other the Baylor Bears. He talked about his visit to Waco.

"They have got a great system," Brown said about Baylor. "I've gotten a chance to walk around campus and talk with some of the students, players and coaches. Everything is pretty cool down there."

Brown is planning on making a decision near the beginning of the school year and has set some goals for his senior year at Memorial High School.

"I just want to keep my head on straight, win the state championship and move on," Brown said.
