Taking Aim at Texas
Inside Texas
SAN ANTONIO -- The Longhorns always have a target on their backs, especially when it comes to Texas A&M, and the Aggies are looking to last year's 12-7 upset victory in Austin for inspiration in 2007.

Franchione thinks Aggies have arrived
Austin American-Statesman
SAN ANTONIO — Totally unprompted, a relaxed and chipper Dennis Franchione began his evaluation of this latest Texas A&M football team with music to Aggies' ears. "I really like this team," the fifth-year Aggies head coach said Tuesday. What's not to like other than a so-so secondary, an average linebacking crew, a very young kicker, the lack of a vertical passing game and a treacherous schedule that sends the Aggies to every bad place but Baghdad?

To coin a phrase, Iowa State's gaga over Chizik
Austin American-Statesman
SAN ANTONIO — It's not often that a college coach is honored with his own coin, especially when that coach is only 45 years old, in his first head coaching gig and has yet to even win a single game. But a Des Moines bank recently produced two coins with the likeness of Gene Chizik, who left his job as co-defensive coordinator at Texas for Iowa State eight months ago to take over the struggling Cyclones program.

A&M's Fran a cool, calm contender
Dallas Morning News
SAN ANTONIO – Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione went all in Tuesday. He put his chips in the middle of the table by putting his team on equal ground with Oklahoma and Texas in the Big 12 South race this season. He said his team is capable of winning all its games. And in a move certain to win points in Aggieland, Fran even referred to the Longhorns as "t.u." while discussing A&M's 12-7 victory in Austin last year.

With Fran, nothing lost for good
San Antonio Express-News
Dennis Franchione spent Tuesday morning at the St. Anthony Hotel, which couldn't have been a more fitting venue. The old downtown inn, like the city around it, was named for the patron saint of lost things. And for the past few years, Franchione might as well have had St. Anthony on retainer. Whether it's been confidence or hope, respect or acclaim, fan support or job security, every time Franchione has appeared to lose something, he's found a way to get it back. That's why the Texas A&M coach laughed off the notion that by getting blown out in the Holiday Bowl in December, his Aggies had relinquished all of the momentum they had built with their breakthrough victory over Texas.

Texas A&M football schedule shows challenges for the team and the coach
San Antonio Express-News
Texas A&M coach Dennis Franchione had just settled into his seat behind a microphone at a downtown San Antonio hotel, the banquet room's harsh lighting had just warmed to his maroon blazer and coordinating gold-and-garish necktie, when the topic was broached. You know, about the Aggies' gauntlet of road games this season.

Texas A&M has a rough road ahead this season
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
SAN ANTONIO -- Dennis Franchione said he would love to return to San Antonio with the Aggies in early December, which not so coincidentally, happens to be the time of the Big 12 Championship Game. But that will be a much longer and bumpier road than the one he took to the Big 12 Media Days on Tuesday.

SAN ANTONIO -- Texas Tech coach Mike Leach believes his critics are way off base if they think his wide receiving corps won't develop into an offensive juggernaut this season.

SAN ANTONIO — Were it not for the maroon pinstripe suit, one might have mistaken Dennis Franchione for a turn-of-the-century Mack Brown.

Big 12 media day continues

SAN ANTONIO - He looked as if he had been asked one of the hardest questions of his life. No matter how many times he hears the question, it's still a tough one to answer directly. Then, after taking some time to recollect, Stephen McGee smiled and gave media members just a taste of what he hears on a regular basis.
