Sweed Injures Wrist in Scrimmage

Senior SE Limas Sweed sprained his left wrist during Wednesday morning's scrimmage, according to head athletic trainer for football Kenny Boyd.

"We will continue to evaluate him and expect a full recovery," said Boyd.

Football officials did not set a timetable for Sweed's recovery. That timetable could be anywhere from days to months depending on the severity of the sprain.

A two-time All-Big 12 honoree, Sweed has started 33 consecutive games for Texas. He is backed by senior Nate Jones, redshirt freshman Montre Webber and true freshman Malcolm Williams.

Sweed is the second Texas wide receiver to suffer a summer injury. FL Jordan Shipley has been limited since the beginning of August camp due to a hamstring injury.

Wednesday's session at Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium represented the first full-contact scrimmage of the preseason for the Longhorns. The second scrimmage, slated for 7:15 a.m., Saturday at DKR, is open to the public.
