Thomas Ferguson Talks Recruiting

It's no secret that South Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie, Texas is loaded with talent from the 2009 class. Many consider defensive lineman Randall Dent to be the top prospect from SGP, but it was actually safety Thomas Ferguson that brought home Sophomore of the Year honors in district play last year.

At 6-foot-0, 190-pounds, Thomas Ferguson racked up 66 tackles and six interceptions from his safety spot last year. He also possesses 4.5 speed and maxed out at 255 pounds on bench press and 380 on squat. With those numbers and physical attributes, Ferguson will definitely receive Division I interest over the next couple of months. He talked recruiting with IT.

"I've thought a little about it," Ferguson replied when asked about recruiting. "I grew up a Texas fan. I also like OU and Miami."

"I grew up watching OU and Texas. I've always loved both of those schools mostly because I have family in both areas," Ferguson added. "With Miami, I like how they play on the field. They also do a good job getting their players to the pros."

Ferguson didn't attend any camps over the summer, but he has been receiving a lot of mail from various schools including OSU, Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M and Houston. He talked about what he is going to look for when it comes to recruiting.

"I'm going to look at how the defense plays," Ferguson said. "I not only want to make sure that I like the way their defense plays, but I want to make sure that I would be able to fit into their defense and be successful as well."

During his sophomore season, Ferguson displayed a knack for finding the ball on the ground or through the air. He talked his strengths on the field.

"I think I have the ability to make plays when we need them. I'm not the type of person that talks back to the coaches. I always do what I'm told to do. I feel like I'm more of a role model on the football field," Ferguson said.
