The junior has been limited since suffering a hamstring injury in late June during voluntary summer workouts. His Game Day action so far this season has been limited to holding on PATs and FG attempts.
"Jordan has done a good job this week," Brown said. "In talking to him during the pre-game last week, we were not sure whether he would play or not (against TCU). He said he was about 90 percent, so we did not play him. We want him to be 100 percent because he's had a tough time."
Indeed. The consensus 2003 Texas 3A Offensive Player of the Year tore his right ACL during August Camp of his freshman year, sidelining him for the 2004 season. He then missed the entire 2005 national championship campaign with a hamstring injury. Jordan Shipley appeared in all 13 games last season, starting one, collecting 229 yards on 16 grabs. He also added 110 yards on seven rushes.
"He's practiced this week," Brown continued, "and, if nothing changes between now and game time, we're planning on taking him and letting him play."
Shipley's absence has opened the door for Nate Jones. The senior has posted a team-best 17 receptions for 163 yards during Texas' first two ballgames. His first TD of the season, a 33-yard reception that saw Jones divert from a slant to a flag pattern, was Texas' first score in its comeback win against the Horned Frogs.
The 2-0 Horns hit the road for the first time this season. Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m. (CDT) and will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
