Alex Okafor: Visits the Forty Acres

Alex Okafor and his Pflugerville teammates have jumped out to a great start this season. With a 3-0 record, Okafor is feeling comfortable with the direction his team is going and has shifted some of his attention to recruiting. He has taken one unofficial visit thus far and has actually picked up a Big 12 offer. Where do the Longhorns fit in?

"I've been on one unofficial visit to Texas. We went when they played TCU," Alex Okafor said. "It was nice and the atmosphere was intense. I could barely hear inside the stadium. It was a good experience, and everyone treated me well."

During his visit, Okafor got to spend time with UT's defensive ends coach Oscar Giles. Giles was glad to see the big DE on campus and will likely check him out later on in the season.

"I talked to coach Giles," Okafor said. "He told me that he was glad to see me down there and that he was going to come to one of my games pretty soon."

As far as recruiting goes, Okafor is hearing from Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Florida and Nebraska. A recruit's first offer is always important, and one of the five schools listed above has already pulled the trigger.

"I got (an offer) from Nebraska," Okafor said. "I've sat down and thought about that (recruiting) a little bit, and since Nebraska was the first school to offer they have an advantage that some of the other schools don't have."

Okafor, though, said he doesn't have any favorites at this point and is still waiting on a couple of more offers before he even starts to narrow things down.

Pflugerville High School has jumped out to an impressive 3-0 record this year. Okafor has helped the defensive effort by recording 18 tackles and two sacks thus far in his junior season. The great start has Okafor hoping for big things this year.

"We really expect to go undefeated in the regular season," Okafor said. "In the playoffs, I hope we make it to the semi-finals at least."
