Early Offers Coming in for '09 LB

Abilene linebacker Chris Williams has come out of the gates strong in his junior year and several schools have already started to take notice. He already has two scholarship offers and is hearing from schools across the country.

"I have offers from (Texas) Tech and Baylor," Chris Williams said. "Baylor offered today."

Williams is also receiving mail from Oklahoma State, Alabama, Texas, Connecticut and Kansas among others. Despite the early interest, Williams hasn't started thinking about favorites yet.

"I have another year after this. I should have a lot more offers later on. There will be a time when I have to sit down and think about recruiting, but I will be an Eagle for awhile," Williams said.

Texas Tech is already coming after Williams very hard, and the extreme interest has definitely made a big impact on him.

"We're able to contact coaching staffs, and I have talked to coach (Lincoln) Riley out at Tech. I called him," Williams said. "I know how bad they want me. Their coaches write me everyday. They are pretty pumped about me. I think about them a lot."

The other in-state school that Williams is excited about is the Texas Longhorns.

"I mean they have a good program and a good coaching staff," Williams said about Texas. "They are off to a pretty good start. I definitely wouldn't mind playing there."

Williams hasn't made it out to any college football games this season, but he and a couple of friends are going to try and make a couple before the end of the year.

"Texas and Tech would be the only places I could visit," Williams said. "I think me and a couple of friends are going to try and make some Tech games, and we will probably try to make a couple of UT games too."

Texas Tech and Texas seem to have the clear cut advantage with Williams right now. However, location will not be a factor in his decision.

"Every kid thinks about it," Williams said when asked if he would like to stay close to home. "It's a big decision. My sister, Brianna Dairy, has a softball scholarship at Temple. We talk a lot about it. It doesn't bother me. I'm going to do what is best for my family."

Abilene has jumped out to a 3-0 record so far this year and Williams is averaging over 10 tackles per game.
