Dan Buckner: Making Noise

Allen, Texas wide receiver Dan Buckner was one of the most sought after recruits inside the 2008 class and it's no secret that he loved the attention. But when he committed to Texas, things started to die down. That is until he took the field for his senior season. Buckner may not be getting the full effects of recruiting anymore, but he is still making noise on the football field.

Dan Buckner and the Allen Eagles have started the year 3-0. One of the big questions going into Buckner's senior season was how he would adjust to catching passes from an inexperienced sophomore quarterback. Well the results are in and it hasn't affected him at all.

A receiver of Buckner's caliber gets double-teamed most of the night, which contributes to why he is only averaging three catches per game. However, Buckner is an explosive athlete and he has made the most of his touches this year. Through three games, he has 210 yards receiving to go along with three touchdowns. He is currently averaging 23.3 yards per catch.

Is Buckner still solid with the Longhorns? All signs point to yes. In fact, Buckner and several other UT commits were in Austin this weekend to check out the Rice game.

"I was actually down there this weekend," Buckner said. "I stayed with AJ (Aaron Williams) like I always do. Blake Gideon and Tre Newton were there. Emmanuel Acho was there. I saw Justin Tucker and some of the other Austin areas guys too, but I mainly hung out with AJ, Emmanuel and Tre. We all sat together."

Buckner's conversation with the UT coaching staff was limited during his visit, but he did get the opportunity to talk with the Longhorns' wide receiver coach.

"I talked to coach (Bobby) Kennedy before the game," Buckner added. "We left early so I didn't go to the locker room after the game was over."

Buckner had a great time during his stay in Austin and he talked about the experience.

"It was fine," Buckner said about his visit. "It wasn't all about football. I just hung out with some people out there. It was just like a normal weekend in Dallas. I like the environment in Austin. I can't wait to get down there."

Buckner is now focused on his senior season. Allen opens up district play this week against Plano, who is also undefeated so far this year.
