Alex Okafor: Focused on Sr. Season

Thus far in the 2008 class, Texas has failed to secure a commitment from a defensive end prospect. This position could be key for the Longhorns in '09 and Pflugerville's Alex Okafor is proving to be one of the best in the state. He already has two Big 12 offers and a couple of schools from the Southeast have started showing big time interest.

"I have offers from Nebraska and Texas Tech and I have been getting a lot of mail from Alabama and Georgia Tech. Both of those schools could be on the verge of offering," Alex Okafor said.

"With Alabama, I really like Coach Nick Saban and the fact that they play in the SEC. That is the best conference in the country," Okafor said. "With Georgia Tech, I really like the location of the school down in Georgia."

Three other Big 12 schools, other than the two that have already offered, have been showing a lot of interest in Okafor.

"Texas A&M, Colorado and Texas are the three Big 12 schools that have been sending a lot of mail besides the two offers," Okafor said."

Despite growing interest, Okafor is placing every ounce of importance on his junior season rather than focusing on recruiting. He hasn't established a favorite yet, but he has checked out two of Texas' games this season.

"Really, I haven't even started thinking about it (recruiting)," Okafor said. "I'm still focused on the season. I will probably sit down and start thinking about it this summer."

"I went to the Texas and Kansas State game," Okafor said. "Texas lost, but it was still a good game. It was intense, and both teams brought their A-game."

Okafor has planned at least one more visit before the end of the season where he and his family will travel to Baton Rouge to check out the LSU Tigers.

"I'm planning on going to the LSU/Arkansas game during Thanksgiving break. I'm excited about it. I'm going down with my family. It should be a good experience," Okafor said.

Okafor and his Pflugerville teammates currently sit in second place in their district and have already clinched a playoff birth.

"I feel like we have a great team," Okafor said. "If we play our best in every game, we should make it to the semis at least."
