Mason Walters: Drawing Big 12 Interest

The state of Texas produces four or five stud offensive lineman every year and the class of 2009 is no exception. Wolfforth Frenship' Mason Walters is good. In fact, he could end up battling Cedar Hill's Thomas Ashcraft for the top spot in Texas before all is said and done. IT caught up with Frenship head coach Brad Davis to talk about Walters.

Texas normally likes to recruit slender offensive tackles with room to put on a little weight. Quickness is also something that Mack Brown and company have always looked for. At 6-foot-6, 285 pounds, Mason Walters definitely fits the bill.

"He is a big ole, quick offensive lineman," Davis said of Walters.

This early in the recruiting process, Walters has already amassed a number of offers from Big 12 programs. Coach Davis ran down the list and mentioned another school that will almost certainly offer in the near future.

"Texas Tech has offered. Texas is going to offer. Oklahoma State already offered and Baylor has offered," Davis said.

Texas has been showing Walters plenty of interest during his junior season, but they haven't exactly guaranteed him a scholarship offer.

"They haven't come out and said it, but they have indicated it," Davis said.

Walters made an unofficial visit to Austin for the Texas Tech game. From all indications, he enjoyed the visit.

"He went to the Texas game when they played Texas Tech," Davis said. "He had a great time."
