Running backs coach Rucker moves to new position

Longhorns football coach Mack Brown is looking for a new assistant after running backs coach Ken Rucker moved to a new position Wednesday. Rucker, who has coached Texas running backs for the past three seasons, accepted Brown's offer to fill the newly created job of director of high school relations and player development for the UT football program.

Major return?

With rumors swirling about the possible return of Longhorn legend Major Applewhite to Austin as new running backs coach with a possible title attached, here's what we know. Texas has an opening for a running backs coach. Texas has not officially contacted Alabama about talking to the young Crimson Tide offensive coordinator. Applewhite has always been interested in coming back to the place where he starred and is still hero-worshipped. I know Major has contemplated returning someday as a running back or wide receiver or quarterback coach. This could be the time. Probably won't, but don't kill the idea completely.

The first two months of the year are arguably the most important recruiting months for the Texas Longhorns. Coming up in February, UT will hold their annual junior days. Has Austin LBJ linebacker Kerry Hyder received an invite?
