D.J. Monroe, Rod Davis Make Officials

Texas tends to get the vast majority of its official visits out of the way early in December, but there are always a few prospects that miss UT's banquet weekend. Angleton's D.J. Monroe, already a Texas commit, and Rod Davis, one of the Horns' final targets, fit into that category. The two high schoolers took their official visits to Austin over the weekend.

"I actually just got back," D.J. Monroe told Inside Texas. "It was great. I got to talk to a lot of the players down there. It was pretty fun. I enjoyed it."

But the biggest recruiting storyline for Longhorn fans would have to be Roderick Davis' official visit. Monroe talked to Davis about the recruiting battle between Texas and Texas A&M.

"Yeah, I talked to him," Monroe said. "He still hasn't made a decision. We just talked about the whole A&M thing and about how Texas and A&M were different."

Asked if he was whispering in Davis' ear, Monroe said, "I really didn't even have to do that. I think he's going to end up coming back home."

Monroe also had the opportunity to sit down with the Longhorn head coach Mack Brown.

"He just told me to keep maintaining my grades and that I should be ready to come in by early July or late June to start practice," Monroe said.

Monroe's host during his visit was running back Foswhitt Whittaker.

"He's great," Monroe said when asked about his host. "I've known him for a long time. We just chilled, played a few games, talked to the boys and about the upcoming season."

Monroe is one of the top track stars in the state and is now shifting his focus towards track season. He said that he would like to get a little bit bigger before he heads up to Austin for football practice.
