Burkhead now has four scholarship offers to choose from. California and North Texas offered early in the recruiting process followed by Tulsa and Texas Tech. He has also been invited to a total of eight junior days.
It's obviously not possible for Burkhead to travel to every school that has sent an invite, but he has already set up two visits.
"I'm going to try to make it out to the Texas one either the 10th or the 23rd. I'm not sure yet," Burkhead said. "And then, I'm going to Texas Tech on March 1st. That's all I have planned right now."
Burkhead hasn't developed a top five yet, but he will likely look to play for a contender down the road.
"Of course, the big Top 25 schools," Burkhead said when asked if anybody was standing out. "Texas, Texas Tech, of course, is right there, Notre Dame is actually recruiting me pretty well, so them too, Alabama and OU of course."
"I'm pretty much open. I don't really have a top five or anything like that," Burkhead added.
Burkhead makes the most noise on the offensive side of the ball, but several schools are recruiting him to play defensive back on the next level.
"Some schools are recruiting me as a safety as well," Burkhead said when asked if most schools were recruiting him at running back. "I'm mainly being recruiting as an athlete."
Will playing on a certain side of the ball effect Burkhead's decision?
"Right now, it really doesn't matter to me. I know I'm going to have to make a decision coming up, and I haven't really thought about it. But either position, I'm comfortable with."
When asked about a time frame for a decision, Burkhead said, "I kind of want to wait it out. I really just want to take my visits and look at other colleges. I want to really make sure that I know that that's the college I want to go to."
