Dog days of Augustin possible second wind for the Longhorns
San Antonio Express-News
Texas A&M took a week off and got worse. D.J. Augustin took 45 hours off and got better. Exactly what that proves isn't clear to either science or religion. College coaches try to map it with both: The peaks and valleys of stats sheets, weighed against their abiding faith that their teen volunteers will bust veins trying to pursue the March windfall. Welcome to the dog days of the college hoops season. Welcome to the physical strain you can see and the mental strain you can't.

Longhorns legitimate contender for a No. 1 seed in NCAA tourney
Daily Texan
The rumblings can be heard once again. March could bring the Longhorns a No. 1 seed in the NCAA basketball tournament. While No. 24 Kansas State, Oklahoma and the whole Big 12 tournament stand between Texas and that coveted seed, consecutive wins over No. 4 Kansas, Baylor and No. 22 Texas A&M have sent the team up to the seventh spot in the rankings.

Longhorn women face must-win game vs. OSU
Austin American-Statesman
So much for prosperity. In a span of four days, the Texas women's basketball team won its biggest game of the season — against then-No. 8 Baylor — only to suffer possibly its worst defeat in Big 12 Conference play, falling to second-tier Colorado. Now the Longhorns, who are trying to make it back to the NCAA tournament after a two-year absence, face a near must-win situation tonight on the road against Oklahoma State, which is having similar problems dealing with recent success.

Young back in Austin working on degree
San Antonio Express-News
Vince Young's status on the University of Texas campus is nothing short of legendary. During the Longhorns' run to the national title in 2005, local fan shops began selling T-shirts that read, "I heart VY." The heart, of course, was burnt orange. Young's following was fueled by the effortless way he churned for yardage, by the breathless way he channeled comebacks – not the least of which came in a Rose Bowl victory against Southern California. But Young didn't fret much about those comebacks then, so why do it now? He's back on the UT campus, and Young is trying to play it off like he's just any other student.
