Texas Top 100 DE Headed to Austin

From Houston Chavez, Texas Top 100 DE Michael Brockers is one of the many talented defenders in this class, but because he has been quite busy with the Lobo basketball team, football recruiting has been slow (on his end). Thus, he has not attended any junior days to date. But he has managed to find time to make his way to Austin for February 23 junior day.

One of the top defenders in the Class of 2009 is Houston Chavez's Mike Brockers. He is being highly recruited by programs across the country and has a handful of scholarship offers.

He is currently in another season with the Lobo basketball team making the playoffs. With that said, Brockers has not been able to visit any schools, even the ones that have offered him. But, he managed to squeeze in one to Austin this weekend.

"I plan to go to Texas' junior this weekend," the 6-foot-6, 250-pound Brockers said. "I'm pretty sure we are playing on Friday, so I can make it down there for Saturday. I haven't really been to any junior days because of basketball, but I will go to Texas this weekend and try to go to LSU at the end of the month."

At the moment, Brockers holds offers from Texas A&M, Stanford, Oklahoma, Houston, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. Right now he admits he is leaning towards Texas A&M and LSU.

But as far as the Texas visit goes, there are a few things he wants to check out.

"I'm really coming to meet the coaching staff and become familiar with the program," Brockers said. "I also want to see how the school is academically."

Brockers averaged about seven tackles a game and recorded at least 10 sacks on the season. He is known for his ability to stop the run but said he will work this off-season and try and become a force as a pass rusher.

"I am going to hit the weights and become bigger and faster," Brockers said. "I just want to get my body ready for the college level."
