Mason Walters: Gets His Offer

It was no secret that the biggest priority for the Texas coaching staff this weekend was Wolfforth Frenship's Mason Walters. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he would receive an offer, but was he impressed enough to give his verbal to Longhorns?

"It went real well," Mason Walters said when asked about Texas' junior day. "I got to talk to the coaches quite a bit. I got to have a one-on-one with Coach Brown, McWhorter and Tolleson. They answered a few questions and we talked about time frames and stuff like that."

"He just kind of talked to me about the whole process," Walters said of his one-on-one with Mack Brown. "I kind of thought that there was going to be some pressure, and there was none. He told me I could take the time I needed to make my decision. He told me that they wanted me and that they weren't going to take anymore linemen besides me. They said that if I wanted to commit there, great. If not, they wish me the best of luck. They were really friendly and seem really up front and honest."

Walters received a scholarship offer from the Longhorns during his visit in Austin, but he wants to check out some other schools before making a decision.

"I don't think I have enough information to make that decision right now," Walters said when asked if he thought about committing. "I want to take a look at some of these out-of state schools that have offered me. At this point in time, I'm just kind of looking to make sure nothing is better out there. I'm trying to make the right decision and I'm not pressured for time right now."

Walters hesitated to name Texas as his overall favorite and it appears that his recruitment could go deep into his senior season.

"It's a close race right now. I probably won't be able to give a list until mid-summer," Walters said.

Some of the other schools that are currently high on Walters' list include Texas Tech, USC, Stanford, Notre Dame and LSU.
