The game only went seven innings, as each head coach decided to end the second of the team's two games early, but throughout the entire contest there was little UTPA could do at the plate. A trio of Texas pitchers on the mound, Chance Ruffin, Casey Whitmer and Marcus Tackett held the Broncs to just three hits and no runs.
"It's hard to lose when you get pitching like that," said Texas head coach Augie Garrido, "and that's a beautiful thing because losing makes my life a lot more difficult."
Texas hasn't lost a game yet, but it'll be a true mark of this team's toughness if it emerges from this weekend unscathed. The Longhorns travel to Houston for the start of the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park, in which the Longhorns take on Tennessee, Rice and Houston on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
"We're going to have a new experience in front of us," said Garrido, "playing two of the finest and most competitive teams in Texas and also a fine team in Tennessee."
"Environment plays a bigger role than people know and it's going to be interesting to see how our team responds," said Garrido.
First pitch Friday and Saturday's game is a 7:00 p.m. and Sunday's starts at 6:00.
