Garrett Porter: A Man of His Word

When recruiting draws to a close in 2009, the Texas Longhorns will likely have one of the most talented offensive line classes in the country. Odessa Permian's Garrett Porter is a big part of that group and remains solidly committed to the Longhorns.

"Yes, very," Garrett Porter said when asked if he was still solid in his commitment to Texas. "I'm good with my word."

When Porter gave his verbal to the Texas Longhorns, he was being recruited heavily by the likes of Oklahoma, Virginia and Arizona. Schools have continued to inquire about Porter, but his coaching staff is quick to let them know that he is headed to the 40 Acres.

"I think they try, but my coaches help me out," Porter said when asked if he was still being recruited by other programs. "They let them know that I'm committed. I'm done."

Porter is not only a member of a solid offensive line group headed for Texas. He is also a part of what is shaping up to be a very solid class overall. Porter and several of the other members of the Longhorns' 2009 class stay in touch on a regular basis and are planning on getting together after Texas' spring game on Saturday.

"I've looked at the Texas Top 100 and every single one of us are in it," Porter said. "We text a lot and we are all going to the spring game this weekend. We have made plans to hang out afterwards."

Asked if he was excited about the spring game, Porter said, "It's going to be awesome. I'm going to get the opportunity to watch my future teammates."
