Baseball: Texas Loses Big to Nebraska

The Longhorns kicked off the weekend series against Nebraska with a 14-4 loss on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

Box Score

Texas (17-7, 4-3) had an early 3-0 lead against the Huskers at the top of the fourth thanks to an RBI double in the second by Michael Torres that sent Pat McCrory and Russel Moldenhauer home.

Starting pitcher Kenn Kasparak passed the ball off to Keith Shinaberrry after giving up five hits total and four runs in the fifth. One batter later it was Brandon Workman's time to work the mound into the seventh. Workman was followed up by Kyle Walker, Casey Whitmer and Stayton Thomas to finish things off. Workman gave up six hits and three runs. Shinaberry and Thomas were the only pitchers to give up only one run.

Nebraska managed to drive home four runners in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings while Texas couldn't manage to score after the third. Overall, Texas had three errors in the field and the Longhorns on the mound gave up 17 hits.

Offensively, Michael Torres's two RBI made him the team leader on a short list that included only him and Brandon Belt (one). Travis Tucker, Jordan Danks, Moldenhauer and McCrory all scored for the Horns.

The Longhorns try again against Nebraska on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in Austin.
