Ken McDonald — who played for Rick Barnes at Providence and coached with him at Providence and Texas — bid adieu to the Longhorn coach Sunday to accept the top job at Western Kentucky University.

Rick Barnes' coaching tree is sprouting another branch. Texas assistant coach Ken McDonald got the head coaching job at Western Kentucky recently vacated by Darrin Horn, who left for South Carolina.

Texas baseball team beats Oklahoma 13-7 in series finale

University of Texas coach Augie Garrido tinkered with his batting order before Sunday's game at Oklahoma and saw the changes provide dividends. The switched-around players drove in six runs as the Longhorns cruised to a 13-7 victory at Mitchell Park.

Russell finding stroke as extra BP pays off

Kyle Russell has turned the corner. He started pulling himself out of a slump last weekend, and he continued on Sunday. Texas' right fielder went 3-for-5 at the plate, drove in four runs and scored once in a 13-7 series-clinching win for the Longhorns (21-10, 7-5 Big 12) against Oklahoma (22-10-1, 3-5-1).

The Oklahoma baseball team had been flirting with disaster all weekend against visiting Texas. Falling behind early and having to scratch their way back, the Sooners had avoided the big knockout blow from the Longhorns through the first two games. Until the sixth inning Sunday. Disaster finally struck when Texas All-American Kyle Russell launched a towering three-run home run deep to right field in the Longhorns' 13-7 victory over OU at L. Dale Mitchell Park before a season-best crowd of 1,964.

A rough day

Oklahoma came to L. Dale Mitchell Park Sunday trying to break a decade-long string of series losses to Texas. It left with a familiar all too familiar. The Sooners were rocked early and often in a 13-7 loss to Texas in the rubber game of the three-game series.
