Randall Dent: Still on Texas' Radar

The Longhorns have a pair of offers out to defensive tackles for the Class of 2009, but South Grand Prairie's Randall Dent is still very much in the picture. Texas has remained in contact with Dent, who has the Horns as one of his top schools.

Randall Dent holds seven offers, but only one from his top three.

The 6-5, 253-pound lineman from Grand Prairie, Tex. is very clear on his top three schools: "LSU, Texas and Oklahoma State." However, OSU is the only one to offer the junior DT. Along with the Cowboys, Dent's also received offers from Kansas, Oregon, Arizona, Minnesota, Texas Tech and Nebraska.

He hasn't received an offer from Texas yet, but one could be in his future. Longhorn coaches have remained in contact with Dent and continue to send him letters, though none have been overly specific.

"I really don't know what Texas is saying other than I know I'm still on their list," said Dent.

The last letter Dent received from Texas was about two weeks ago and the Horns are keeping the SGP big-man in mind as recruiting continues. Texas currently has offers out to a pair of uncommitted defensive tackles in JaMarkus McFarland and Calvin Howell, meaning Dent may have to wait for either one to make a move before he'll know if an offer from Texas will come.

If the recruiting process were to end today and no more offers arrived, Dent told Inside Texas he would likely commit to Oklahoma State.

"I like (Oklahoma State's) facilities," said Dent. "I've been there and they're building a lot of stuff, so everything would been new when I got there. I know couple people down there and I know the recruiting coordinator (Curtis Luper), gotten to know him pretty well."

If he did receive an offer from one -- or both -- of his other two favorites, Dent said he'd have a very tough decision in front of him because he considers each about even.

"They are all in the same boat," he said. "There is no margin that I like this one better or that one better. Those are three that I really like and that are high on my list right now."

Dent was at Valley Ranch in Irving, Tex. on Saturday for the Under Armor/Scout.com DFW Combine on Saturday. At the event, Dent ran a 5.19 in the 40 and had a 4.87 second shuttle, a 27.5-inch vertical leap and an eight-foot-three standing broad jump. Ranked as the No. 40 overall prospect in the state, Dent logged 60 tackles and five sacks last season while also recovering three fumbles and forcing two more.

Dent said he's still looking around and may expand his top three, especially if other schools jump into the process. Recently, Kansas State and Tulsa have expressed serious interest in the SGP DT.

"I am still evaluating schools that are showing interest in me and see what's out there," said Dent. "I just want the best fit for me."
