Struggling team faces Texas St.
The cylinders have been firing for Texas all season, just not at the same time. But Sunday, the Longhorns (26-18, 10-11 Big 12) were able to take a lead and keep it in a 7-4 win at Kansas State (20-23, 6-12 Big 12).
NCAA tourney not a given this year for Texas
Before last weekend's three-game series with Kansas State in Manhattan, Augie Garrido made it clear that more than a .500 record was on the line. "We have to win three games this weekend," said the Texas baseball head coach. "There's no question we have to win three games this weekend. And we have to do it knowing that we have to win three games." "You hate to say you have to sweep someone, but we've got to win seven of nine conference games," associate head coach Tommy Harmon added. That was the standard for the weekend. Go up to Kansas State's home field and sweep the only sub-.500 Big 12 team Texas will face for the remainder of the season, or start facing the grim reality that the struggling Longhorns might not make the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998. How'd they do with their new short-term goal? Texas fell one game short of the sweep. Time for Longhorn fans to start thinking of a backup plan for that trip to Omaha. Texas might not even get a bid.
