The Longhorns have received a commitment from a big man from Cedar Hill High School in each of the last two recruiting classes. In 2008, Texas signed defensive tackle Jarvis Humphrey. A couple of weeks later, the Horns received a verbal from offensive tackle Thomas Ashcraft. If Adam Shead has anything to say about it, the streak of Cedar Hill commits will likely continue in 2010.
For the 6-foot-3, 310-pound Adam Shead
, recruiting is right around the corner, but the sophomore offensive guard isn't waiting for things to pick up. He headed to Austin for Texas
' Orange-White game earlier this spring and is planning on a return visit this summer.
"I went to Texas' spring game," Shead said. "I loved it. I felt at home down there. All the players were cool and I loved the coaching staff. It was a really great atmosphere to be around."
"I'm a big Texas fan. I love Texas, and I'm definitely going to try to go to Texas' football camp this summer."
The Longhorns have picked up commitments from two of Shead's teammates over the last two recruiting seasons. How does he compare himself to a Jarvis Humphrey or a Thomas Ashcraft?
"I think I'm pretty close. I'm not as polished as they are, but I'm just going to be a junior. I'm still working to get where they are, but I'm getting there," Shead said.
It was very obvious that the Longhorns are solidly atop Shead's list early in the process, but several schools from the southeast have caught his eye as well.
"Texas is number one of course," Shead said. "Some other schools I like are Florida, Miami, Tennessee -- the Volunteers -- the University of Georgia and Louisiana State University."
