Jacoby Walker Talks Camps, Recruiting

Over the last two weekends, Mack Brown and company have had an opportunity to check out some of the top 2010 signal callers. Westfield quarterback Jacoby Walker was one such athlete. He attended camp in Austin on June 8th and has also camped at Oklahoma State. IT caught up with Walker to talk about camps and recruiting.

It's not common to hear about a quarterback making a big impact as only a sophomore in the Lone Star State, but that is just what Jacoby Walker did last season at Westfield High School. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Walker threw for 1,328 yards and 20 touchdowns on his way to earning First Team All-District honors.

Walker has already been to camp at Texas and Oklahoma State and plans to visit UTEP this weekend and Houston at the end of the summer. IT talked to Walker about his trip to Austin earlier this month.

"I went to Texas' camp the Sunday before last. I met with the coaches," Walker said. "I got to talk to Coach (Greg) Davis and Coach (Major) Applewhite. Coach Applewhite helped me out with a lot of little things and Coach Davis helped with my footwork."

Walker's trip to Austin was his first summer camp experience and he left satisfied with his performance during drills. However, he was even more impressed with the level of talent in attendance at Longhorn's June 8th camp, much of which is already committed to UT.

"There were a lot of big names there," Walker said. "Greg Timmons, Emory Blake, Barrett Matthews, Chris Whaley was there and Marcus Davis."

When it comes to recruiting, Walker is looking to play ball in the southern portion of the country and mentioned the Big 12, SEC, ACC and Big Ten as several conferences that he is interested in. It's still early for the guys in the 2010 class, but Walker already has a top five and is also looking at another school that is on the rise.

"My top five are Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Nebraska," Walker said. "Also, an up and rising program I like is Alabama."
