Texas Visits 2010 RB Darius Dotson

The Longhorns are already pursuing some of the top players in Texas for the class of 2010, including taking a visit to Hitchcock High School to see running back Darius Dotson. Dallas Shipp visits with Hitchcock head coach Gary Carney about his stud back.

WHAT MAKES HIM SUCH A UNIQUE TALENT?
He's just so big and strong and a gifted kid who's as fast as anybody. He's such a physical specimen. He's 6-1.5, about 210 and plays mostly DE and running back in our single back set.

He's got a great knack for the ball out here in 7on7. In the real games we don't throw it to him as much bc he's in there to block, but when we do throw it to him he's got great hands.

HOW IS HIS DOWNFIELD VISION AS A RUNNING BACK?
He sees the field real well. He probably doesn't get as many touches as he would in some different systems but he's got a great per carry average and I think he scored four touchdowns on the ground and a couple in the air.

HOW ARE HIS HANDS AS A RECEIVER?
He's one of those guys who catches anything you throw to him. He's going to catch it. When he goes up for something, he's going to be the guy that comes down with it most of the time. He presents a lot of match up problems coming out of the backfield.

HOW IS HE OFF THE FIELD?
He's a great kid with a good work ethic. He's gotten better at that. As a freshman it was kind of hit or miss but he's really starting to see the big picture.

WHAT ARE COLLEGE COACHES SAYING ABOUT HIM?
(Texas running backs) coach Major Applewhite came down twice in the spring and supposedly they've got him rated as the No. 6 running back in the nation in that class, so they're pretty high on him. When I spoke to Applewhite the second time he came and I said, hey coach, you here to see some of our guys? He was very blunt, he said, ‘I'm here to see Darius.'

WHAT OTHER SCHOOLS ARE SHOWING INTEREST?
He hasn't done many camps yet and that probably keeps him under the radar so to speak. I know he gets a lot of letters but I'm not sure who all is really interested. Throughout the course of the week we'll have eight to 10 schools come in and they're all impressed. I don't recall what A&M has said. They came down once but I don't know if I was there that day. UH and Hitchcock has a pretty good connection and they're pretty high on him. I think the sky's the limit. I think he's a Big 12/SEC kind of guy. He can go where ever he wants.
