The Summer Visits Continue for Kirkpatrick

Five-star cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick of Gadsden, Ala. is up to about 40 offers, including one from the Texas Longhorns, and has been all over the country. Kirkpatrick talks about his visit to Texas, the rest of the schools he's been to, what schools he'd still like to see and more.

Dre Kirkpatrick has already spent an extensive amount of time on the road this summer.

"I've been to Texas, Clemson, Auburn, and Tennessee already," Kirkpatrick said. "I liked Texas. I got to meet the coaches and players, and I had a good time with them. I had been to Auburn and Tennessee before, I just went to show love to the coaches for coming to see me earlier. I know I'm going to LSU on July 21 for their camp. I'm supposed to go to Florida State the day before the LSU camp. And I might go out to USC for a visit."

At 6-3, 185 and after posting 58 tackles and six interceptions as a junior, it's easy to see why Kirkpatrick is considered one of the best cornerbacks in the entire country.

"I have about 40 offers now," he said. "Recruiting has slowed down a lot since we got out of school. But there are still a few schools that have my attention right now. Texas, Miami, LSU, most of the SEC schools really, and Clemson are all showing me a lot of love right now."

Many people believe Kirkpatrick will end up staying close to home and suiting up for the Alabama Crimson Tide for the next few years. But the premier defender says nothing is set in stone yet.

"I'm considering both Alabama and Auburn the same as the other schools," said the 5 star cornerback. "I'm not necessarily worried about staying close to home. I've talked with my mom about that already. She says the decision is completely up to me, and her opinion is the only one that really matters. So I have the opportunity to leave if I want. I haven't really thought much about it yet, though."

LSU is one of the out of state schools Kirkpatrick is giving consideration to.

"I really like the coaches at LSU," he said. "It's only about five hours away, so it's not far too away from home. I've been to LSU before but I never had a chance to get one on one time with the coaches. But they have been recruiting me hard and promised me that chance this time, so that's why I'm going to the camp later this month."

As mentioned earlier, the recruiting process has slowed down dramatically for Kirkpatrick the last few months, and he doesn't plan on allowing it to pick back up anytime soon.

"I'm going to narrow my schools down to a top 10 after my senior year," he said. "I'll be taking unofficial visits to a few places during the season for games, like Texas, Florida, and LSU. I haven't really though too much about official visits yet, but I'll probably take all five. Two of them will probably be Miami and USC."

Note: Kirkpatrick says he will be traveling with his teammate Kendall Kelly, a 5 star wide receiver, for all of his visits this summer. Kelly came with Kirkpatrick to Texas back in June.
