Tight ends hope to make an impact
Austin American-Statesman
Blaine Irby's dream route is a go, one on which he streaks straight up the field, catching a pass over his shoulder for a defense-decimating gain. Peter Ullman's fantasy route is more of a throwback to a time when offenses were all about brute power. He envisions the perfect dig route, where he slips up field for about 10 yards, turns parallel to the line of scrimmage and waits for the quarterback to drop the ball over the linebackers and into his hands. Irby, a sophomore, and Ullman, a fifth-year senior, are the Longhorns' best options to replace Jermichael Finley, who left abruptly for the NFL in January despite having two years of eligibility remaining at Texas.

Dallas Morning News
Former Arlington Martin standout Josh Marshall suffered a left scapula (shoulder) fracture during practice at Texas. A sophomore, Marshall appeared in seven games last season on special teams and as a backup tight end. No timetable has been set on his return. Even without Marshall, the Longhorns seem committed to using a two tight-end package at times.
