Horns linebackers eager to repair reputation
There's Sergio Kindle, the high school All-American who everybody thought would be the next big thing at Texas. There's Roddrick Muckelroy, the guy fans have been clamoring for the past two years who's turning heads this preseason. There's Rashad Bobino, an experienced senior who started as a freshman on the 2005 national championship team. Then there's the coach: defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, whose specialty might be the way he uses the middle of his defense. When it comes to the Texas linebackers, it's all there. The talent. The experience. The coaching. The question is whether it will come together for a school that hasn't exactly been known as Linebacker U lately.
Young will have jersey retired at season opener
Texas will retire No. 10 — the number Vince Young made famous — during a ceremony in conjunction with the Longhorns' season opener against Florida Atlantic on Aug. 30.

Texas quarterback Colt McCoy ever so quietly rushed for 492 yards last season. That dramatic comeback victory at Oklahoma State and that hold-on-to-your-seats scoring fest against Texas Tech were both keyed, in large part, by McCoy's legs. But apparently McCoy's efforts were so quiet, his own defense didn't take much notice, until now.
Jarvis Jones, Scout.com four-star strongside linebacker from Columbus-Carver, (Ga.), has been focused on the upcoming season and not been on any recent visits. Jones has trimmed a list of favorites to seven schools ranging from coast-to-coast.
