"It was a win-win situation," Dowell's AAU coach Charlie Jones said. "They got a great kid and he's going to an excellent program both athletically and academically."
Dowell toured with Jones' Houston Westside All-Stars last summer. According to Mike Kunstadt, a Texas-based high school scout and leading authority on the state high school basketball scene, Dowell ranks as one of the premier players in the Greater Houston Area.
"He brings a tremendous amount of versatility," Jones said. "He's 6-7 and still growing."
According to Jones, Dowell couldn't pass on the chance to stay home and wear the Burnt Orange with pride. "It's great for a Texas kid to be able to stay home and go to a nationally known program on the rise."
Yeah, Rick Barnes probably would agree.
