Poll Report: Texas at 8

The Texas Longhorns moved up to No. 8 in the AP and Coaches polls, jumping the Auburn Tigers and taking the spot vacated in each poll by West Virginia, who tumbled after an upset loss to East Carolina.

Texas moved up to No. 8 in both the AP and Coaches polls on Sunday and now hold the dubious distinction of being the highest-ranked team in the nation without a first-place vote.

The No. 8 spot in both polls was held last week by the West Virginia Mountaineers, but WVU tumbled in the rankings after being upset by previously unranked East Carolina. It was the second week in a row that ECU knocked off a Top 25 team and the Pirates debut in the polls at No. 14 in the AP and No. 20 in the Coaches. West Virginia fell to No. 25 in the AP and No. 24 in the Coaches.

The teams in top five stayed the same as last week, but they shifted places a bit. After struggling to a win over Ohio, previously-No. 3 Ohio State fell to No. 5 in each poll and Oklahoma and Florida moved up to take the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively. The top two are the same, with USC at No. 1 and Georgia at No. 2.

Along with Oklahoma and Texas, Big 12 team Missouri also makes the top 10, coming in at No. 6 in each poll. There are two other conference teams in the Top 25. Texas Tech is No. 12 in both polls, while Kansas is No. 11 in the AP and No. 13 in the Coaches.
