Poll Report: Top 5 Battle On Tap For Texas-OU

Coming off convincing road wins to open Big 12 play, No. 5 Texas and No. 1 Oklahoma held steady in Sunday's polls and now head to Dallas for a showdown whose winner will be in the driver's seat for the Big 12 South championship.

The Horns (5-0) and Sooners (5-0) enter Saturday's contest in the Cotton Bowl both undefeated and in the top 5 for the first time since 2004, when No. 2 Oklahoma shut out No. 5 Texas 12-0, UT's only loss in an 11-1, Rose Bowl championship season. The Sooners last entered the game with a No. 1 ranking in 2003, when top-ranked OU crushed No. 11 Texas 65-13.

Four Big 12 teams are in the nation's top 7. Along with Oklahoma and Texas, Missouri, ranked fourth and third in last week's AP and USA Today rankings, respectively, moved up a notch in both polls, landing at No. 3 and No. 2 this week while Texas Tech is No. 7 in both polls.

Five of UT's next six opponents are ranked in the top 17. A week after facing the No. 1 Sooners, Texas hosts the No. 2/3 Tigers and then No. 17 Oklahoma State, which spanked the Aggies 56-28 yesterday, followed by a trip to the No. 7 Red Raiders, Baylor in Austin, and No. 16/15 Kansas in Lawrence.

The ranks of the undefeated was thinned with the losses by South Florida and Connecticut, but the top 25 is still more than half filled with undefeateds, including the four Big 12 South teams at 5-0.
