Two for the Show

It has the Heisman front runner directing its point-a-minute offense. It has the nation's second-best run defense and fourth-best sack attack. It has the nation's No. 1 ranking. Is there anything that can keep Texas from running the table? A couple of things as a matter of fact, coach Mack Brown said Wednesday.

Young Receivers Making Big Strides
InsideTexas.com
When the Longhorns beat Missouri, their offense looked nearly unstoppable. A big part of that was the involvement of the young receivers, who played a larger role Saturday than they had the entire season. But this leap in performance from Malcolm Williams, Brandon Collins and others may not have happened without some extra work behind the scenes...

Cowboys have no problems starting against Texas. Finishing is another matter
Austin American-Statesman
Oklahoma State has handled Texas in recent games. Allow me to rephrase. Oklahoma State has handled Texas in recent quarters. Problem is, the Cowboys haven't been able to keep a handle on things. Worse yet, they have come unglued, and by the end, Texas has handed it to them.

Cowboys safety Price has Longhorn offense in his sights
Austin American-Statesman
He almost was a Missouri Tiger before he was an Oklahoma State Cowboy. He was a wide receiver before he was a defensive back. Ricky Price's college football career seems to change directions quite a bit.

McCoy says he's returning to UT
San Antonio Express-News
The underclassmen declare date for the NFL draft has been pushed back to mid-January, but Texas quarterback Colt McCoy has already said he'll return to play for the Longhorns in 2009.

Texas Longhorns' Colt McCoy turns to his high school coach for fatherly advice
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
With even Tim Tebow calling him the Heisman Trophy front-runner, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy knows where he can go to get away from all the adoring hype. He just calls his dad.

Many Texas players have bounced back from subpar 2007 seasons
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Texas quarterback Colt McCoy commands the headlines and rates as the midseason favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. Defensive end Brian Orakpo is a sack machine with rare physical skills, a senior who projects as an early first-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. But if you want to locate the poster boy for the top-ranked Texas Longhorns (7-0, 3-0 Big 12), the player who personifies what makes this team click, look no further than defensive tackle Roy Miller.

Longhorns No. 1 in polls, No. 111 in pass defense
Associated Press
For the No. 1 team in the country, the pure statistics say Texas plays some lousy pass defense. To which the Longhorns reply: Stats are for losers. It's a catchy slogan from first-year coordinator Will Muschamp that masks some ugly numbers, even if the hard truth remains that Texas is undefeated heading into Saturday's game against No. 7 Oklahoma State (7-0, 3-0).

OSU secondary: Cowboys' brothers in arms
Oklahoman
On Saturday, Oklahoma State's secondary — which nicknamed itself the "D-Block" last season — will be seriously tested by Colt McCoy, the hottest quarterback in the country, and the Longhorns' receivers. If McCoy "can't beat" the D-Block, OSU's odds of beating the country's No. 1 team improve dramatically.

Cowboys to face another ace arm
Tulsa World
Another week facing another top-flight quarterback equals another challenge. Oklahoma State's defense just went down this path two weeks ago in facing Missouri's Chase Daniel. Its challenge this week is just as daunting, if not more so. How does OSU stop, or at least slow down, Texas quarterback Colt McCoy?

Unbeaten Oklahoma State will be tested at Texas
Philadelphia Daily News
IN THE PRESEASON poll, five Big 12 teams were ranked in the top 14. Oklahoma State was not among them. The Cowboys weren't even one of the 49 teams that received votes, although Washington (one) was. Washington? So naturally, OSU has opened with seven victories for the first time since 1945, when it completed a 9-0 season by beating St. Mary's (Calif.) in the Sugar Bowl. That's the last time the school, which back then played in the Missouri Valley Conference and was still known as Oklahoma A&M, won a major bowl game. The Cowboys are ranked seventh (and were sixth in the first Bowl Championship Series standings), heading into Saturday's tilt at No.1 Texas.

Marcus Davis: Commitment Stronger Than Ever
InsideTexas.com
If Marcus Davis had any doubts about his commitment to Texas, the play of the Texas defense this season and the Longhorns' No. 1 ranking have combined to emphatically squash them.

Coach G's ultimate fashion accessory wish: a ring
Austin American-Statesman
Gail Goestenkors recently introduced a line of clothing, her preference leaning toward pantsuits similar to the one she wore Wednesday to address media covering Big 12 basketball. The Longhorns coach is proud of the new collection, but Goestenkors won't be truly satisfied until she produces the appropriate accessory — an NCAA crown.

Inside Texas sits down with linebacker Roddrick Muckelroy to discuss preparation for Oklahoma State, the yards given up to tight ends, the effect of senior leadership on this team and more.

Goestenkors has Longhorns back in Big 12 mix
Associated Press
Gail Goestenkors had about all a basketball coach could hope for at Duke, except a national championship. She had her fair share of McDonald's All-Americans, a handful of conference championships and routine appearances in the Final Four. Then she gave it all up to start over at Texas.
