Texas' Best Defense? The Defense Rests
Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp unveiled his Texas Tech game plan to his troops just before sun-up Tuesday. But the Longhorns' best defense Saturday against the high-flying Red Raiders may rely more heavily on what offensive coordinator Greg Davis has up his sleeve.

'Tackling 101' (With Professor Muschamp)
There is a proven tactic for slowing the kind of point-a-minute, record-breaking spread offenses that Texas Tech has been running to near perfection. And Texas coordinator Will Muschamp is giving his defense another crash course in it Tuesday.

The feeling was deep down in his gut. It was a feeling that, as a teacher, you don't talk about, think about or hint at. Defensive end Brian Orakpo , the teacher, was wondering if his pupil, Henry Melton, could start over and succeed. The lessons were about how to become a good defensive end.

Texas' Muschamp has ties with Texas Tech offense
Dallas Morning News
Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp might be able to provide extra insight into the Texas Tech passing game that the Longhorns will face Saturday night. Muschamp spent a season as defensive coordinator at Valdosta (Ga.) State in 2000, the same school that served as the testing laboratory in the 1990s for Tech coach Mike Leach and his mentor, Hal Mumme.

Even though his Texas Longhorns had just wrapped up a victory against Oklahoma State last Saturday, coach Mack Brown was spewing and spitting words after the game.

Tech safety grows into team leader
San Antonio Express-News
Texas Tech safety Darcel McBath has had leadership — and interceptions — more or less thrust upon him this season. McBath, a senior from Gainesville, picked off three passes in Saturday's 63-21 rout of Kansas, a blowout that set up a showdown between top-ranked Texas (8-0, 4-0 in the Big 12 South) and the sixth-ranked Red Raiders (8-0, 4-0) on Saturday in Lubbock.

This is how the Raiders roll
Houston Chronicle
In 2003, to win a bet with a Texas Tech classmate, Kevin Pierson of Friendswood grabbed a lawn chair, a bag of chips and a cooler and plopped himself outside the student gate at Jones AT&T Stadium. Fifty-nine hours later, he was the first student inside to watch the Red Raiders take on Texas A&M. Pierson so enjoyed the experience that he decided to camp out again before the Raiders' next home game. Six years later, as a first-year graduate student, he's still at it.

Tough schedule continues with Tech
Daily Texan
When the Longhorns finished their 28-24 win over Oklahoma State, the entire team let out a collective "whew." For the first time in school history, No. 1 Texas made it through three straight weeks of ranked opponents. Quarterback Colt McCoy walked into Monday's press conference with scratches and bruises on his hands, defensive back Ryan Palmer wore a protective wrap around his hyperextended elbow and the entire team looked happy just to have escaped the three games without a loss.

Longhorns, Raiders liking end results

Texas Tech defensive end Jake Ratliff has started every game this season, but when circumstances dictate he doesn't mind deferring to McKinner Dixon and Brandon Williams. The latter two, statistically speaking, are among the top three pass rushers in the Big 12 Conference... Saturday's Texas Tech-Texas showdown doubles as a showcase of star pass rushers. UT's Brian Orakpo and Tech's Williams and Dixon rank 1-2-3 in the league in sacks with 81/2, eight and seven, respectively.
