Several Longhorns still alive in the playoffs

The high school playoffs have reached the regional final week for many and several future longhorns are still alive and fighting for a state crown. Texas commits Mason Walters, Garrett Gilbert, Paden Kelley, Thomas Ashcraft and Trey Graham are looking to move on and make appearances in the 4A and 5A state semifinals next week.

Class 5A

Division I

Region 1

Euless Trinity (13-0) vs. Allen (12-1) Saturday 4:00pm, Texas Stadium, Irving

Euless Trinity beat Allen 24-14 in non-district play earlier in the season. Trinity sophomore running back Tevin Williams has put together an impressive season in part time duty rushing for 1,085 yards and 20 touchdowns on 181 carries as well as catching nine passes for 123 yards.

Allen junior quarterback Matt Brown, who missed last weeks win over Odessa Permian with an injury, has completed 145 of 233 passes (10 interceptions) for 1,973 yards and 27 scores as well as rushing for 1,125 yards and 13 touchdowns on 147 carries.

Region 2

Dallas Skyline (12-1) vs. Round Rock Stony Point (12-1) Saturday 2:00pm, Floyd Casey Stadium, Waco

Skyline junior receiver Mike Davis looks to add to his terrific season of 56 catches for 1,123 yards and 16 touchdowns, while his fellow junior teammate Joseph Powell has hauled in 42 receptions for 635 yards and eight scores.

Fort Bend Hightower (11-0) vs. Pearland (12-0) Saturday 2:00pm, Tully Stadium, Houston

Hightower junior linebacker Shaun Lewis looks to add to his season totals of more than 100 tackles and six sacks.

Region 4

Austin Westlake (9-4) vs. San Antonio Clark (12-1) Saturday 4:00pm, Alamodome, San Antonio

Cedar Hill (12-1) vs. Wylie (11-2) Saturday Noon, Texas Stadium, Irving

Cedar Hill senior offensive tackle Thomas Ashcraft and junior guard Adam Shead look to keep opening up running lanes for junior running back Ben Malena, who has rushed for 2,086 yards and 34 touchdowns on 298 carries. Cedar Hill junior linebacker Aaron Benson has posted over 100 tackles on the season and is closing in on ten sacks.

Wylie junior tight end Noah Chesier has 11 catches for 248 yards and a touchdown as well as 33 carries for 121 yards and 10 scores.

Klein Oak (10-1) vs. Copperas Cove (12-1) Friday 7:30pm, Tiger Stadium, Corsicana

Region 3

Katy (10-3) vs. LaPorte (8-4) Saturday 1:00pm, Rice Stadium, Houston

LaPorte junior running back Kendrick Perkins enters Saturday with 1,693 yards rushing and 25 scores on 234 carries. Sophomore running back/receiver Anthony Webb has posted 547 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 75 carries.

Frenship and standout lineman Mason Walters will look to beat a Denton ISD school for a second consecutive week after beating Denton Ryan 38-35 last week.

Region 2

Longview (11-2) vs. Waco Midway (12-1) Saturday 8:00pm, Texas Stadium, Irving

Midway tight end Trey Graham and junior safety Ahmad Dixon look to keep the Panthers rolling against an ultra talented Longview squad.

Region 3

Friendswood (10-1) vs. Beaumont Central (9-3) Saturday 6:00pm Woodforest Stadium, The Woodlands

Friendswood quarterback and Texas Tech commit Jacob Karam has completed 191 of 312 passes (9 interceptions) for 2,928 yards and 36 touchdowns as well as rushing for six scores.

Lake Travis (13-0) vs. Killeen (9-4) Saturday 2:00pm, DKR Memorial Stadium, Austin

Lake Travis offensive tackle Paden Kelley look to keep protecting quarterback Garrett Gilbert. Gilbert enters Saturday with 3,871 passing yards and 44 touchdowns completing 236 of 345 passes (three interceptions). Gilbert has added 505 rushing yards and 17 scores on 78 carries.

Sulphur Springs (11-2) vs. Rockwall-Heath (13-0) Friday 7:30pm, Texas Stadium, Irving

Sulphur Springs quarterback Tyrik Rollison and junior safety Bryant Jackson look to keep the Wildcats dream season alive against a Rockwall-Heath team that will be without standout senior running back Kendial Lawrence, who is out with a shoulder injury.

Rollison has completed 248 of 344 passes (15 interceptions) for 3,636 yards and 40 scores as well as rushing for 857 yards and seven touchdowns on 122 attempts. Jackson has recorded 88 tackles, eight pass break ups and five interceptions on the season.

Region 3

Dayton (11-1) vs. Brenham (8-4) Saturday 6:00pm, Rhodes Stadium, Katy

Dayton receiver A.J. Dugat enters the regional final with 98 catches for 1,531 yards and 18 touchdowns as well as over 500 yards rushing and six scores. Dayton quarterback and future Nebraska Cornhusker Cody Green has completed 194 of 298 passes (five interceptions) for 2,663 yards and 27 touchdowns as well as 1,094 rushing yards and 23 scores on 155 carries.
