Along with Davis, Alex Okafor showed his quick first step and future pass rushing ability for the Longhorns. The 6-5, 230-pound end is quick enough to create pass rush without a low inside shoulder using his quick first step and long arms to give tackles fits on the high school level.
Defensive tackle Calvin Howell had his moments in the morning practice before going down with a knee injury (considered minor at this point). Howell, a legitimate 6-3, 275-280 pounds, showed his agility in pursuit and change of direction drills. Blessed with long arms and impressive upper body strength to go along with the agility, Howell has a high ceiling as an interior pass rusher.
The linebackers weren't going to have a huge impact on Monday workouts as the inside run and run game in general wasn't much of a focus. Allen, a legitimate 230 pounds, showed good hands in drill work and the downhill ability that led to an offer from Texas.
Along with the four commitments, Alabama corner Dre Kirkpatrick is a member of the West defense. The initial thought on the five-star prospect is how well he fills out a uniform for a corner. Kirkpatrick looks good on the hoof at a legit 6-2 and maybe taller, 185-190 pounds with long arms.
Kirkpatrick was bothered by a tight hamstring and never got going after initial drill work.
