Horns Finish Second on Jones and Kirkpatrick

The Texas Longhorns have not been in very many of these down to the wire races that end up with just a signature on Signing Day. The Longhorns gave valiant efforts on both Jarvis Jones and Dre Kirkpatrick, but came up short on their signatures.

Some Texas Longhorn fans may be disappointed with losing out on National Signing Day with two National 100 prospects in Columbus, Georgia's Jarvis Jones and Gadsden's Dre Kirkpatrick. Ironically, on both prospects, Texas ended up in second place.

Linebacker Jones, at roughly 1:30 Eastern time, selected the USC Trojans over the Longhorns, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, and LSU Tigers at his high school.

Premier corner Dre Kirkpatrick, decided to stay closer to home, and choose his in-state Alabama Crimson Tide over the Longhorns on national television at a 3 pm Eastern press conference.

Both players had been recruited by defensive coordinator and head coach-in-waiting Will Muschamp. Coach Muschamp recruited both players while he was the defensive corrdinator at Auburn.

The Longhorns wrap up the 2009 recruiting class with 20 new players and a likely top 8 finish in the Scout.com National Team Rankings.
