Trey Hopkins Makes It Official…1st Commit

Just when you thought you had it all figured out and no offensive lineman are invited to campus for tomorrow's Junior Day, Mack Brown picks up the phone and offers longtime Texas Longhorn fan, Trey Hopkins, and he commits on the spot.

"Yes, sir, I committed," said Trey Hopkins happily.

"Coach Brown called me at about 2:30 (this afternoon) and offered and I knew that is where I wanted to go," Hopkins explained.

So how did this happen? Hopkins has not been invited to tomorrow's Texas Junior Day.

Hopkins always knew that he wanted to go to Texas, so when he found out that numbers were going to be tight for the Longhorns on the offensive line, he started to get a little worried he might not get his dream offer.

"(North Shore head) Coach Aymond kept telling me, ‘Be patient' so I did," said Hopkins.

Hopkins explained that he went to Austin last weekend with his mother to talk to the coaches and they told him that they do not extend offers until after Signing Day. At that Hopkins made it clear that he would like a coveted Longhorn offer.

"I am just excited about being able to go to my dream school. There is a lot of excitement and relief. Now I can focus on finishing my high school career," Hopkins said.

Hopkins will not be in Austin for tomorrow's junior day event and likely will not attend the February 28 junior day as it is his sister's birthday.
