BASEBALL: #7 Rice Preview

The Texas Longhorns take their #1 ranking to Houston for a top ten showdown against Wayne Graham's Rice Owls. The midweek match-up is scheduled to start at 6:30 and can be heard on the 1300 The Zone.

The #1 Texas Longhorn baseball team (14-2) is headed to Houston for a Tuesday night tilt with the Rice Owls (10-5). The game is a top ten battle of two of the region's biggest baseball powers. The Owls are finishing up a seven game homestand where they went 4-2, but are coming off of their worst outing of the year.

Tonight's Expected Starters:
Texas: Austin Dicharry (0-0, 1.74 ERA)
Rice: Matthew Reckling (0-2, 12.27 ERA)

True freshman right-hander Austin Dicharry brings his sterling 1.74 ERA over 10.1 innings into his third start of the season. Tonight's ballgame in Houston is a chance for Dicharry to pitch in front of his hometown fans. Dicharry is a graduate of Houston area Klein Collins high school.

Another Houston native takes the hill for the Owls in Kincaid graduate Matthew Reckling. The right-hander has struggled early in the season posting an 0-2 record and 12.27 ERA in just 3.2 innings. Batters are hitting a robust .421 versus the freshman.

Expected Lineup for the Rice Owls:
Brock Holt, 2B
Chad Mozingo RF
Diego Seastrunk C
Anthony Renden 3B
Rick Hague SS
Jeremy Rendon CF
Steven Sultzbaugh LF
Michael Fuda DH
Jimmy Comerota 1B

Anthony Rendon leads the team in batting average (.356), home runs (4), and RBIs (18). Diego Seastunk is not far behind Rendon in batting average at .354, but does lead the team in slugging at .688. Hague (.333) and Holt (.313) are the only other regulars that top the .300 mark.

The Owls are coming off their worst loss of the season on Sunday when they were blanked by #20 San Diego (9-9) to the tune of 8-0. The Owls managed just four hits and were struck out nine times by starter A.J. Griffin (8 IP, 3H, 3BB, and 8K) and reliever Matt Thomson.

Tonight's game starts at 6:30pm and the first 1000 fans will receive a green Rice hat for St. Patrick's Day.
