Texans Fill Updated National Rankings

Scout.com released its post-spring evaluation Top 300 national list today and the state of Texas is very well represented. Of the top 100, thirteen Texans made the list while the Texas Longhorns already have pledges from five of those thirteen and are in the running for five other Texans. There are also several out of state players on this list that the Longhorns are targeting.

The state of Texas habitually produces the largest number of college football signees each season so it comes as no surprise that the most recent Scout.com rankings are littered with Texans. Forty-six Texans made the top 300. Thirteen made the top 100.

According to Scout.com's Director of Recruiting Scott Kennedy, the 2009 class was more of the same as Texas had 384 players sign Football Bowl Subdivision scholarships besting runner-up Florida who had 315. When looking at just BCS conference signees, the gap narrows but Texas still retained the top spot with 190 while Florida had 183.

There was not much movement at the top of the class with the bluest of the blues, although one Longhorn pledge did add a fifth star with Reggie Wilson moving up to #23 in the country. Other five-star players from Texas are Jackson Jeffcoat (#7 overall, previously #6, Plano West), Lache Seastrunk (#8, previously #7, Temple), Taylor Bible (#16, previously #11, Denton Guyer), Ahmad Dixon (#27, previously #21, Waco Midway), and Darius White (#32, previously #34, Fort Worth Dunbar). White earned a fifth star as several more five star prospects were named.

There are currently 35 players listed with five stars and 200 more with four stars. As the year progresses, the Scout300 will eventually move to the customary 50 five stars and 250 four stars.

Of the five-star players, The University of Texas already has commitments from defensive line standouts Taylor Bible and Reggie Wilson and has offers out to Jeffcoat, Seastrunk, and White. Ahmad Dixon had previously been a Longhorn commitment, but has since de-committed and is now a Baylor Bear verbal pledge. In addition, Texas has also offered five-star linebacker Jordan Hicks of Ohio (#10 overall).

In the entire list of 300, Texas already has commitments from fifteen prospects.
