Recruiting: Gatewood's Decision Already Made

The first Big-12 battle between the Horns' Mack Brown and the Aggies' Dennis Franchione is approaching an end. Finality is almost here.

About a month ago, Tyrell Gatewood broke his commitment to Texas A&M after R.C. Slocum was dumped and Franchione was brought in. Since then, Gatewood has made three official visits, to Texas, OU and A&M. IT spoke with him on Sunday night and the Tyler Chapel Hill wideout said he had already made his decision, but will not officially release it to the media until Wednesday. After a WWF experience for his official to Norman, and an official visit to Austin already in the books, IT wanted to get a feel for his weekend trip to College Station.

Inside Texas: So how was the visit to A&M?

Tyrell Gatewood: It was okay. Went pretty good.

IT: Who was your host?

TG: Terrence Murphy. (Gatewood's cousin)

IT: You told IT in an earlier interview that he wasn't trying to pressure you any. Did this change?

TG: No sir. He told me I have to make the decision I feel is the best for me and that he wanted me to go to A&M only if I really wanted to and not just because of him.

IT: Did Franchione speak with you personally about your decommit and try to reel you back in?

TG: Yes, he tried to convince me that I'd be alright in there offense. Just told me things would work out if I went there and showed me some of the plays they planned on runnin'.

IT: Did you buy it?

TG: Not exactly.

IT: So, after seeing the three schools you wanted to see, would you say that the trip to Texas topped them all? I mean, based on your comments from each and every visit, sounds like Texas came out ahead?

TG: Yes, you could say that.

We'll have more on Gatewood as he looks to make an official announcement on Wednesday and we'll have some additional information from Gatewood in this week's edition of the Inside Scoop.
