"Spoke with wide receiver's coach Darryl Drake from Texas tonight," the wideout sportin' a sick 3.89 20-yard shuttle time said. "He was calling to ask me about the rumors circulating around."
The rumors Drake was chasing down are that Sutton will take another official visit or two.
The Texas coaches have to be frustrated, with Signing Day '03 quickly approaching, not knowing Sutton's exact situation as they look to close out this year's class.
"Coach Brown said that he doesn't like it when people lie to him, so I can see that he might not be too happy with me right now," a mixed up Sutton said as he clearly is struggling with the recruiting process. "I mean, no coach is going to like it if you commit to him and then talk about taking other visits."
IT did an earlier article on Sutton that had him taking officials to Oregon State and Oklahoma State before making his third official to The University. But another service had Sutton making one of his allotted five officials to Oklahoma. Sutton denied that and said he's only taken the two he earlier stated in an IT interview plus the one to Austin. And that if he were not committed to Texas, N.C. State and Florida would be the final fourth and fifth visits he'd be allowed to take per NCAA rules.
Asked if he wanted to take anymore trips, the exceptionally quick high school prep said, "I haven't."
Asked why he might want to take a couple more visits, Sutton said, "Well, I would like to take those visits to make sure I'm making the best possible decision I can make, but haven't decided for sure if I'm going to do that just yet."
Does the Florida standout see the Texas coaches a little upset with him?
"They probably are," said the 4-star bluechipper. "I'm just hopin' they don't get mad at me."
According to Sutton, the Texas coaches (Brown and Drake) are flying to Florida this Thursday to meet with him, his coaches (the subject of other rumors as pushing Sutton away from Texas) as well as some of his family.
One would expect that Brown and Drake are flying down to firm up Sutton's commitment, but Sutton disagrees.
"Coach Brown promised me he would come down and see me before and he doesn't break his promises," said one of the most interesting Texas targets from the class of '03.
So what's going on?
"I'm just thinking things over," Sutton said. "I would like to visit the other two schools, but I haven't decided to do that just yet and not sure I will or will not go. I need to talk to the Texas coaches a little more which I will this Thursday. But I'm still committed to Texas. Everybody knows that I'm all about Texas. Come February 5th (National Signing Day), Texas will be the school I attend and everybody will see that."
This is definitely one of the softest commits in the Mack Brown era and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out. We'll continue to keep you updated...
