State 7-on-7 At a Glance

The Texas state 7-on-7 tournament gets underway on Thursday with division II action followed by division I on Friday and Saturday. Five members of the Longhorns 2010 class will be taking part along with many of the top underclassmen in the state.

The Texas Longhorns have always been well represented in the Texas state 7-on-7 tournament and this year is more of the same. Taking the field first of the future Longhorns will be Graham quarterback Case McCoy on Thursday afternoon.

McCoy and his Graham teammates will be playing out of Pool D in division II featuring the Steers, Cameron, Edna and Melissa. Poll play is set to begin at 1pm.

Two teams in D-II feature prospects the Texas longhorns are recruiting in the 2011 class. Playing in Pool A will be Brownwood led by Jaxon Shipley. Anahuac, Rice Consolidated and McGregor will join Shipley and his Brownwood teammates in Pool A.

In Pool F will be the Carthage Bulldogs. Carthage features 2011 LB Kendall Thompson. Joining Carthage in Pool F will be Wimberly, Willis Point and Glen Rose.

The championship and consolation bracket for D-II will begin at 8am on Friday.

The big boys so to speak or division I begins play on Friday with pool play scheduled for 1pm. Here is a look at some of the featured prospects in the 4A-5A division.

Pool C

Lufkin is led by future Longhorn Carrington Byndom. The Pack will take on Klein Forest, Mission and Mansfield Legacy.

Pool O

Pool O features a third and fourth future Longhorn in Desoto corner Adrian White and receiver Darius Terrell. Joining White and Terrell on a stacked DeSoto team will be 2011 QB/Ath Ryan Polite, 2011 receiver David Porter, 2011 RB Antoine Jimmerson, 2010 RB/Ath Marcus Murphy, and 2012 OLB Alex Lyons.

Pool N

Denton Guyer and Cedar Hill will be ultra talented in this pool. Cedar Hill features Texas commit Aaron Benson at linebacker, 2011 QB/Ath Driphus Jackson, 2011 receiver Lovett Gibson, Texas A&M commit Ben Malena at running back, 2010 safety Elisha Olebode and safety Spencer Phillips.

Throw in 2012 KR/WR Dion Bucky Sanders and the Longhorns are loaded as always.

Denton Guyer features 2011 quarterback J.W. Walsh, who was a standout at Texas camp in June. Walsh' top target may be 2012 receiver Connor Crane.

Pool A

Lake Travis is back in College Station again, this time led by 2011 quarterback prospect Michael Brewer. The younger brother of Texas' Garrett Gilbert, 6-5, 190-pound sophomore-to-be Griffin Gilbert, will be a top target of Brewer.

Pool D

Katy and Beaumont West Brook are the featured squads in the pool. Katy transfer Donovonn Young is one of the top running back prospects in the state in the 2011 class.

For West Brook, 2011 prospects on hand will be linebacker Collin Garrett, WR/DB Bruce Reyes and safety Nick Bryant.

Plano will also compete in Pool D. One of the top prospects in the 2012 class in College Station will be Wildcats quarterback Xavier Harbert (6-2, 185).

Pool E

Tyler Lee features some of the top prospects in the 2011 class. Receiver Marquise Mosley is a big target at 6-4, 205-pounds and is joined defensive back Courtland Browning in the 2011 class. Receiver Marquise Walters (5-11, 165) is a jet in the 2012 class.

Seniors Blake Roberts (OLB), running back DaDa Brown and QB/S Chris Dinkins will join the underclassmen forming a very big and speedy squad.

Pool F

Whitehouse is the headliner in the pool led by a quartet of 2011 prospects in receiver Trey Metoyer, S/WR Quincy Aldridge, RB/CB Dejuan Shelton and QB Preston Conder. Throw in rising senior-to-be safety Jermaine Jenkins and the Wildcats feature a handful of future D-I players.

Plano East will provide solid competition in the pool featuring some speedy receivers and defensive backs in the class of 2010 and top 2011 secondary prospect Lyndell Johnson (6-3, 185).

Pool G

Pool G features some talented 2011 receivers as well as a 2012 running back with much promise. Arlington High will feature 2010 trigger man Matt Joeckel, an A&M commit, and junior-to-be receiver Miles Onyegbule (6-4, 195, 4.7).

Houston Chavez 2011 receiver Japhus Gaines is a top playmaker and is joined by senior quarterback Andre Kelley and darting running back Mark Cole.

Oak Ridge is home to one of the top 2012 running backs in the state. Michael Handy has make-you-miss ability and is joined by 2010 running back Freddie Dotson.

Pool L

The Woodlands 2011 running back Daniel Lasco will be one of the more explosive talents in College Station and is joined by 2011 WR/TE prospect Michael Cooper.

While Lasco may be the top talent in the pool, Round Rock Stony Point will feature the best collection of prospects in all classes led by 2011 jack-of-all-trades Stephen Williams and linebacker P.L. Lindley. The Tigers also have a 2012 prospect to keep an eye on in receiver Dustin Beasley.

Pool P

This pool features a very talented junior to be running back in Abilene's Herschel Sims as well as Dulles 2011 defensive back Sheroid Evans. Evans will be as fast as any prospect on hand.

A third team in the pool features a 2011 prospect with D-I ability in linebacker David Santos.
