Franklin Has Plenty to Consider

Marshall 2010 linebacker Aaron Franklin has plenty of options when it comes to football scholarship offers. Franklin, who wants to announce a decision before his team returns for August camp, took one last look at the Texas Longhorns in Austin on Thursday and Friday. The ‘Horns gave him plenty to think about, so check out this exclusive report from Burnt Orange Beat.

Aaron Franklin, a 6-1, 200-pound linebacker from Marshall, is getting down to the wire with his decision on a commitment. Franklin has previously announced a top four of Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, and Texas A&M, but more recently indicated that Oklahoma had a slight lead over Texas.

However, the Texas coaching staff convinced the four-star linebacker to return to Austin this week to visit the campus and let the coaching staff woo him a little more. Franklin's last visit to Austin was in June for a Texas one-day camp.

After his return trip to Marshall and several hours of thinking, Franklin was ready to talk about his visit.

"The trip went great. I had a good time down there. They gave me plenty to think about. I got to see the campus, the academic center, and all of the facilities. It was great," Franklin told Burnt Orange Beat.

Franklin said that he met with several Texas coaches and support staff, including Head Coach Mack Brown, Will Muschamp, Cleve Bryant, and Mr. and Mrs. Rucker. In addition, several East Texas Longhorns spent some time with Franklin to give him their perspective on being a Longhorn. Those players included Longview's Vondrell McGee, Kilgore's Dominique Jones, and Dallas-area's Emmanuel Acho and Keenan Robinson.

After his return trip, Franklin turned to his grandmother to discuss his options further.

"I went home and talked to my granny about it. She helps me with stuff like this. She is going to pray on it," Franklin said. "This is going to be a tough decision."

So did the Longhorns make up enough ground to secure a commitment?

"Oh yeah, I got to see what I needed to see. I have plenty to think about," Franklin said.

Franklin is going to take a week to mull it over his options and then make a decision publically.

In addition to his final four schools, Franklin holds offers from TCU, Stanford, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, and SMU, among others.

Burnt Orange Beat will continue to provide updates as they become available.
