Fifteen Longhorns In Scout's Top 300

On Monday, Scout released the August edition of the Scout 300 which marks the end of the junior evaluation of the Class of 2010. The athletes have completed their junior seasons, the camp and combine circuit, and the college camp season to solidify their place on the Scout 300. The Longhorns have made quite a showing.

With over 2500 athletes signing Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly D1) scholarships every year, being rated in the top 300 is quite an accomplishment. The Scout 300 consists of the four and five star recruits from around the country.

The Texas Longhorns, who sit atop the national Scout rankings by a pretty healthy margin, have fifteen players or 5% of the top 300 players. Those committed players include the top defensive tackle in the country, Taylor Bible, and the second rated center in the country, Dominic Espinosa.

The entire list of Texas commits in the top 300 is as follows with their national rank in parentheses:

DE Reggie Wilson (15)
DT Taylor Bible (26)
QB Connor Wood (57)
OL Trey Hopkins (62)
WR Chris Jones (86)
S Bryant Jackson (106)
C Dominic Espinosa (118)
CB Adrian White (125)
DT Ashton Dorsey (148)
LB Tevin Jackson (169)
CB Carrington Byndom (201)
RB Traylon Shead (207)
LB Aaron Benson (232)
WR John Harris (242)
CB Adrian Phillips (298)

Texas does have scholarship offers out to several uncommitted players on the list including the top defensive end in the country Jackson Jeffcoat of Plano West (#3), running back Lache Seastrunk (#7), wide receiver Darius White (#14), linebacker Jordan Hicks (#24), wide receiver Demarco Cobbs (#41), and wide receiver Trovon Reed (#51). The Longhorns are no longer pursuing Seastrunk, Cobbs, and Reed.

The Texas A&M Aggies have two verbal commitments from players on the list that also had offers from Texas in Corey Nelson (#32) and Jake Matthews (#43). Both are listed as five star players. The Baylor Bears have a verbal commitment from safety #27 Ahmad Dixon who was once a Texas verbal pledge. The Oklahoma Sooners have a commitment from linebacker #232 Aaron Franklin. He had an offer from Texas, but chose the Sooners earlier this month.
